Artist’s Bio

Fernando Silva is a Bedford Hills, New York–based contemporary and impressionist artist whose paintings capture the rhythm, light, and spirit of urban life.

His work has been presented at prestigious venues, including Makowski Gallery, NYC, Paris show, Miami Art Basel, Red Dot Miami, Wynwood Art District, and Agora Gallery in New York. Recent highlights include solo exhibitions at The Blue Gallery, The Bedford Playhouse, and the Clive Davis Center, as well as group shows at the Las Vegas Art Museum, Art Gotham Gallery, the Sovereign Art Gallery in Greenwich, and the Bethany Arts Center in Ossining, among others.

Born in Buenos Aires, Silva grew up immersed in the city’s colorful street art and the passionate cadence of tango—both of which continue to infuse his canvases with a distinctive vibrancy and rhythm.

His travels across Europe deepened his artistic sensibilities, where encounters with the works of the Impressionist masters, as well as Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Klimt, profoundly shaped his visual language. These experiences enriched his self-taught practice, enabling him to merge Old World lyricism with the contemporary dynamism of New York City.

Working primarily with acrylics, gold leaf, and mixed media, Silva pushes the boundaries of impressionism, at times crossing into expressionism and urban surrealism, through bold color, layered textures, and brushwork that moves with a musical rhythm. A distinctive hallmark of his work is the incorporation of tarot and poker cards—symbols of fate, chance, and hidden narratives—that imbue his cityscapes with layers of mystery and meaning.

These motifs invite viewers to reflect on the interplay between destiny and choice, chaos and order, within the ever-changing fabric of urban life.

Silva’s art is both personal and universal: “A dialogue between his Argentine roots, European influences, and the pulsating vitality of New York. Each painting becomes an invitation to experience the poetry of city life—alive with color, history, and symbolism—rendered through the vision of a modern-day impressionist”.
